Job Description

The Assistant Conductor supports the artistic vision of Artis—Naples through work with the Naples Philharmonic, the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Youth Symphonia as well as serving as artistic director and conductor of the Naples Community Orchestra.

In the 2022-23 season Artis—Naples and the Naples Community Orchestra commence a new partnership designed to share artistic and logistical resources in order to enhance both organizations and music in the Collier County community. While the Naples Philharmonic Assistant Conductor will, along with the Naples Philharmonic Associate Conductor, support the activities of the Naples Philharmonic, Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Naples Philharmonic Youth Symphonia, the Assistant Conductor will also serve as the artistic leader of the Naples Community Orchestra, a separate 501(c)3 organization based in Naples, Florida.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
Conducting Duties
• Support Naples Philharmonic Associate Conductor in covering all Masterworks subscription concerts,
• Conduct select Naples Philharmonic family and youth education concerts,
• Conduct select Naples Philharmonic run-out, pops, special, and community concerts as assigned,
• Provide conducting and coaching support for the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Naples Philharmonic Youth Symphonia,
• Serve as the artistic director and conductor of the Naples Community Orchestra (NCO).

Artistic and Administrative Duties
• As appropriate, work with the Artis—Naples administrative staff to develop run-out, special, pops, community and chamber music programs,
• As appropriate, work with the Artis—Naples administrative staff and Associate Conductor to develop programs for the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra,
• Provide artistic support as needed to Artis—Naples performing arts activities, including Naples Philharmonic chamber music programs,
• Work with the Artis—Naples and NCO staff and leadership to develop NCO programs in a manner that grows the Naples Community Orchestra,
• Select all NCO repertoire and soloists in conjunction with NCO leadership, with support from Artis—Naples administrative staff as needed,
• Conduct Naples Community Orchestra rehearsals and performances,
• In conjunction with NCO leadership arrange coaching and/or sectional rehearsals,
• Participate in Naples Community Orchestra musician auditions and work with NCO section leaders to determine seating.

Public Relations duties
• Represent Artis—Naples and the Naples Community Orchestra as requested to donors and potential donors in private and public settings throughout the calendar year,
• Speak to audiences before, during and after selected concerts as requested,
• Provide administrative supports to staff by participating in scheduling and programming discussions for the Naples Philharmonic, Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Naples Philharmonic Youth Symphonia.

Education/Experience
Outstanding conducting skills
Experience conducting professional orchestras including classical, youth and community, pops, etc.
Public Speaking
Ability to program effectively with a range of repertory and musical styles

Auditions:
Candidates should submit a cover letter, current resume, two letters of recommendation, and contact information for three professional references. Candidates are also required to submit short video samples demonstrating their recent work. This should include at least two contrasting repertoire styles. Video should be shot at close range of the conductor, taken from orchestra's vantage point, facing the fr0nt of the conductor, of either a rehearsal or performance with full symphonic or large chamber orchestral ensemble. Videos must be sent electronically with links and dates of performances (Dropbox, YouTube, Vimeo, etc.). Application materials must be received by April 29. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required for employment with Artis—Naples.
Candidates who are invited for a live audition will rehearse with the Naples Philharmonic and Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra June 11, 2022.
